Israel wipes out families as it indiscriminately attacks civilians
On Saturday, Israeli forces committed "a new massacre" in the Shujaiyya neighborhood of Gaza City. Images of dead chlidren, women and men huddled together lying on the streets is reminiscent of the Sabra and Shatila massacre in Lebanon in 1982. Israeli forces killed 66 people in the Shujaiyya neighborhood, according to media reports.
Israeli Occupation Forces have killed 410 Palestinians and wounded more than 3,000 since Israel began its assault on July 8. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency has said more than 61,000 people have sought safe haven in UNRWA facilities - more than the number of people seeking shelter throughout all of Operation Cast Lead, Israel's three-week assault in 2008-'09 that killed 1,409 Palestinians.
Israeli officials have not hidden the fact they are targeting families. Israeli Major Gen. (res.) Oren Shachor was quoted in Haaretz as saying, “If we kill their families, that will frighten them (Hamas).” Israeli media have quoted other officials saying Israel will destroy homes, even if there are people inside.
The American Muslims for Palestine decries this abhorent targeting of civilians and US complicity in allowing Israel to act with impunity. AMP calls for an immediate end to Israeli aggression, for an end to the siege on Gaza, and end to the occupation and an end to US military aid to Israel.
AMP calls on its supporters and all people of conscience to take action on Monday and call and email the White House and the Egyptian embassy to demand an end to Israel's assault and for Egypt to open the Rafah border crossing to Palestinians.
