AMP thanks SF Supervisor John Avalos

News

The American Muslims for Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, the Asian Law Caucus and the Council of American Islamic Relations-San Francisco Chapter thank San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos for his courageous position in defense of free speech.

Last week, Supervisor Avalos wrote to the San Francisco  Municipal Transportation Authority, which disagreed with a previous letter sent by his colleagues that equated AMP’s Israeli apartheid bus ad with hate speech and that also requested the transportation authority ban political speech advertising. Mr. Avalos clearly distinguished AMP's core political speech from hate speech, and encouraged transportation authority officials to leave open Muni buses as a forum for all speech.

AMP worked closely with a coalition of social justice organizations, including the Asian Law Caucus, the Council of American Islamic Relations-San Francisco Chapter, and Jewish Voice for Peace in combatting Zionist attacks on us and our ad. We are grateful for their support as well as for their commitment to social justice and free speech.
